Benefits of the new GPS civil signal
A recent study conducted on behalf of the U.S. departments of commerce and transportation concluded that the new L2 civil GPS signal will substantially benefit dual-frequency applications and could be a long-term boon for applications requiring three or more frequencies.
- Benefits measured according to the economic productivity approach, which includes productivity gains and cost savings (versus a typical economic impact approach)
- Incremental benefits and user costs defined as the difference of what would be expected in the absence of L2C
- Benefits may be attributable to specific users or spread over a large population
- Market and non-market benefits were included in the benefit measurement approach
