Geospatial Information: The Future Role of Government
(New Zealand)
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) received feedback
from 101 key stakeholders (Central Government, Crown
Entities, Local Government and the Geospatial
Industry) on its geospatial strategy questionnaire.
This month (April 2005), LINZ published the Summary of
Submissions Report (pdf 669KB) summarising the outcome
of the consultation.

The questionnaire was a first step in New Zealand's
geospatial strategy process. The questionnaire, along
with a discussion document - Geospatial Information:
The Future Role of Government - was circulated in
November 2004.

The summary of responses report will be an important
input into helping shape a geospatial strategy for
Government. The final strategy is to be presented to
Cabinet in the near future.
The Geospatial Information Strategy for Government
will consist of a vision, guiding principles, a work
programme and feedback received - geospatial data,
access, interoperability and governance - to ensure
LINZ continues to make advances in the way in which
geospatial information is collected, documented, used,
shared, and maintained.
