I live in Canada and have ensure that my telephone number only is listed 
in the telephone book and not my address.  My address does not show up 
on 411.ca, does not get mapped  nor entered telemarketer dbases as they 
basically scan the phone book.  I have also been able to get my name on 
a do not call list for telemarketers. Women's shelters ensure their 
addresses are never published nor mapped by making it a safety issue. 
Seems like vigilance and persistence is the main way for regular 
citizens.  This is of course much harder for public officials.
