GITA has issued a White Paper entitled, that was
prompted by an intense perio'What Is GIS: A 
Profession, Niche, or Tool?' d of discussion earlier
this year by a variety of professionals on GITA's
listserve, GEOXchange.  Based upon the volume of
feedback and the high level of interest in this
subject, a related panel discussion was then developed
for GITA's annual conference held in March 2005 in
Denver.  This White Paper is an effort to capture some
of the varying perspectives articulated in the
GEOXchange discussion thread, as well as in the panel
session at the conference.
