*European Union. Commissioner-designate for Digital Agenda presents
priorities and actions
*The Commissioner-designate for Digital Agenda, Neelie Kroes (Dutch),
was recently questioned by the group coordinators of the European
Parliament's industry, research and enterprise (ITRE) committee. Topics
discussed at the meetings included aspects of net neutrality, protection
of intellectual property rights in cyberspace, distribution of the
digital dividend and ways to transform a patchwork of national online
markets into a single one to improve the everyday life of European
citizens.
During the hearing, Ms Kroes, set out the key issues she wants to work
on during her mandate: development of information and communication
technologies (ICT); providing safe and secure 100% broadband access;
improvement of the computer skills among citizens; exercising open
standards in the public sector and creating a truly single online market.
