  Deadline: August 21, 2006.
  The Information Centre under the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency (DPPA) was set up in order to provide an information technology and information management system base for disaster management and response in Ethiopia. The main challenge for the Information Center project now that the IT systems are nearly complete at the federal level, is to further develop and enhance the information systems, information use and exchange to support the increasing complex inter-relations within the disaster management structure, between cooperating Federal Government bodies in emergency management including Food Security, with UN, donor and NGO partners and with regional and sub-regional local food security disaster management structures. 
  The Information Centre Advisor will provide recommendations and develop solutions to improving the data production cycles and information interchange processes between various government offices and departments as well as various administrative levels of government (woreda/district, zone, region, and federal).  
  Candidates should have knowledge in GIS and practical application of GIS systems; M.Sc. degree in Computer Information Science, Information Management, Information Technology or related fields from recognized University; and a minimum of 10 years international working experience in a developing country context, of which 8 years closely related to information management, preferably with experience as a Programme/Project Manager.

  VAM SIE is a standardised but decentralised spatial information management environment that would enable World Food Programme (WFP), DPPC and other humanitarian stakeholders to access geo-referenced food security databases and cartographic products from a variety of sources.

  VAM SIE is the geo-information platform server of the Ethiopian Mapping Task Force, accessible through the web. This system was set-up in Addis Ababa, in july 2004 with the support of WFP (HQ VAM unit). 
  
  The Ethiopian Mapping Task Force is an informal working group, launched in January 2004, composed by different organizations, involved in operational thematic mapping in Ethiopia: some governmental organizations and services (DDPC, CSA, Ethiopian Mapping Authority, NMSA), UN agencies (WFP, FAO, UNICEF, OCHA, WHO...), USAID-FEWS, EU delegation in Ethiopia, research institutes (ILRI, IRD...), NGO's. 
  
  The secretariat of the Mapping task force is WFP (VAM unit).
