Landscape Ecologist, Nairobi, Kenya 
ICRAF seeks to recruit a Landscape Ecologist to undertake agro-ecosystem analysis and characterization studies as part of its ongoing research on Natural Resources Management.  S/he will contribute to the further development of ICRAF’s research portfolio on land degradation assessment and land rehabilitation, which aims at better management of tropical agricultural landscapes for ecosystem services and improved human wellbeing.  Current projects in the research group focus on land rehabilitation in Mali, Kenya, Mozambique and India.  The research looks at tradeoffs and synergies in delivering livelihood and environmental services benefits, including carbon sequestration.  The incumbent will be a member of an interdisciplinary team of researchers and will be based either in Nairobi or a field station in Kisumu, Kenya.  Specific responsibilities will include:
Conducting empirical research to quantitatively assess the impact of land use/management and Agroforestry innovations on ecosystem services;
Further developing and testing methods and protocols for multi-scale, integrated assessment of land degradation, spatial targeting and testing of Agroforestry interventions in landscapes;
Designing and implementing training courses in multi-scale ecological assessment;
Developing and maintaining partnerships with national and international organizations within the frameworks of research projects, student supervision and development support;
Participating and eventually leading fundraising efforts in the science and practice of Agroforestry for sustainable land management in rural landscapes;
Supervising a field research program in Western Kenya and having input to field projects across the tropics.
