The Sahara Conservation Fund (SCF) is recruiting a
Conservation Biologist for its Termit / Tin Toumma project
in the Republic of Niger. SCF is an international NGO
dedicated to the conservation of nature in the Sahara and
Sahel.
Position: To assist the Niger government establish a new
protected area for the conservation of threatened desert
fauna and flora in the Termit /Tin Toumma region of the
country. This is a fixed term position of 2 years with
possibility for extension based on the needs, performance
and the availability of funding.
Candidate
? Experience: 3-5 years experience in nature conservation,
protected areas management, wildlife inventory and ecological monitoring,
preferably in the aridlands of Africa; excellent understanding of
biodiversity conservation issues in Africa; keen naturalist (botanist,
ornithologist, mammalogist, etc.).
? Education: M. Sc. or Ph. D. in zoology, conservation biology or
aridlands ecology; fluent French with excellent communications skills in
both French and English; sound working knowledge of GIS technology and
software, especially ArcView.
? Skills: Excellent team worker; good organizational and project
management skills; strong aptitude for training local counterparts;
aptitude to learn local languages (Toubou or Hausa) at least to functional
levels.
? Personality: strong sense of human relations in a cross-cultural
environment; ability to live and work in isolated Saharan conditions.
Remuneration: Commensurate with skills and experience.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Central African Regional Program for the Environment (CARPE), is seeking applications from qualified applicants for funding of assistance agreements to implement the CARPE landscape program in seven Central African countries. Towards this end, USAID is seeking funding applications from institutions representing complementary approaches to conservation (e.g., protected areas, alternative livelihoods, participatory community development, etc.) performing under consortium partnering arrangements to implement the CARPE landscape program.
