  Post-Doctoral Positions, Kirstenbosch Research Centre, Cape Town, South Africa 
  Deadline : Applications are invited from 1 September 2006 onwards and positions will remain open until filled
  Applications are invited for areas of research that will strengthen the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI)'s research in the following programmes. Preference will be given to applicants who can also contribute to the development of skills among early career scientists and students in these areas. 
  - Global change biology : studies assessing the vulnerability of biodiversity to multiple, compound impacts of global change threats (especially climate change, invasive species and habitat fragmentation), assessing the attendant risk of biodiversity loss, and developing adaptive strategies and policy guidance to minimize this risk. 
  - Biodiversity, land use, and ecosystem services : studies that i nform policy on the thresholds of environmentally sustainable land use and the management of biodiversity and ecosystem services in key production systems. Studies may deal with any aspect of the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem services - current research work focuses mainly on aspects of pollination as an ecosystem service. 
  - Phylogenetic analysis of plant-insect interactions. Research on the processes of co-speciation, mutualism, and evolution of plant-insect interactions, including integrated phylogenetic analyses (using molecular and morphological data). Current projects focus on figs & fig wasps. 
  - Threatened species and ecosystems: studies that contribute to the development of tools to define the threatened status of ecosystems, analysis of threatened species data, and projects that contribute to the development and testing of best practice guidelines for the management and restoration of threatened animal and plant species. 
Applicants should be in possession of a PhD degree at the time of applying or have submitted their thesis for examination. The positions are open to citizens of all countries.
