State Land Advisor, Blue Nile, Damazin, Sudan
ARD, Inc. (http://www.ardinc.com) currently is recruiting a State Land Advisor for an 
ongoing project in Sudan. The successful candidate will be based in Damazin, travel 
widely within the state, and visit Khartoum periodically for reporting, representation, 
and planning purposes. Living conditions are basic. Anticipated start date is by 
September 2007, and duration is approximately two years. Selected candidate will 
advise state government on all matters relating to customary and other rights/ ownership 
types; provide technical guidance on the direction of formalizing customary land tenure 
programs, in liaison with national and regional/ local land advisory and administrative 
bodies; advise and coordinate field teams for the purpose of assisting rural 
communities to define, agree and register their community customary domains. 
Candidates should have prior experience working with land programs/ 
administrations in remote areas, preferably in a post-conflict environment in Africa; 
demonstrated understanding of how customary and statutory law impacts land tenure 
arrangements; familiarity with the political situation in Sudan; masters degree or other 
advanced degree in a discipline of direct relevance to land tenure, property rights, and 
the development of land administration systems. Arabic language skills are an asset.
