A one year post-doc position (m/f) in Geology / Remote sensing at the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Belgium
The Department of Geology of the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA, Belgium) is looking for a post-doc researcher for its Remote Sensing unit. The successful candidate will work in the SAMAAV project (Study And Monitoring of African Active Volcanoes) that focuses on four African volcanoes in Tanzania, Dem. Rep. of Congo, Cameroon, and Cape Verde.
The main objective of the project is the use of the InSAR technique for the study of deformations associated to the volcanic activity. The project has already demonstrated the potential of InSAR in support to the ground based monitoring systems and despite the strong vegetation that characterises the surveyed sites.
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Geology, Volcanology, Geophysics, Remote Sensing or related fields with specific skill in radar interferometry for deformation monitoring. The active knowledge of the DORIS InSAR processing software (developed in Delft Univ.) will be considered as an asset as well as experience in deformation source modelling. He or She must have an active knowledge in GIS, have good communication skills, and be fluent in spoken and written English and/or French or Dutch. Based on his background, the candidate will be involved in field work.
The Royal Museum for Central Africa is a multidisciplinary research institution focussing on Africa. It comprises a total staff of more than 275 persons, of which 75 permanent scientists mostly at PhD level. Its Department of geology consists of about 15 scientists. Research in the department covers isotope geology, environmental geochemistry (global processes and hydrochemistry of the African lakes), general geology (structural analysis of deformation of rocksystems, mineral resources) and remote sensing (for general, research, and thematic mapping purposes).
