News of this conference has already been shared in the SDI-Africa newsletter, but I thought you might be interested in knowing that SCGIS-Kenya was successful in lining up environmentalist and Nobel Prize laureate, Wangari Maathai, as the keynote speaker.

Dear List, 

We are 1 week away to our 1st ever Conservation-GIS Conference that will be
held at UNEP HQ from July18-20, 207.

We are indeed very honored to be joined by the Novel Prize Laureate,
environmental activist and founder of Greenbelt Movement Professor Wangari
Maathai. Having recently embraced the use of Geospatial technology at GBM,
Professor Wangari Maathai is set to deliver an inspiring keynote speech that
will make you rediscover your call to conserve nature and more so with
today's technological advances.

However, that is only the beginning; there are planned plenary sessions that
will include an authority on community-based conservation and long standing
conservationist Dr. David Western, Dr Iain Douglas-Hamilton of Save the
Elephants, Christian Lambrechts-UN, Craig Von hagen - FAO/SWALIM among
others with long standing experience in conservation and geospatial
technologies. 

We are all very excited about this and for those of you who have registered,
