* most on this list are too far away to attend this free seminar, but I'm passing on the information because it is a good example of using free seminars to gather members of the geospatial community now and again. Every month or couple of months, there could be a free meeting, taking advantage of having international visitors (as CGIS has in this case), or you could put together a seminar series with your own local talent.
Guenter Doerffel and Frank Bosch, ESRI-Germany will give a Seminar presentation on the topic: GIS System Design Strategies, How to plan/design/dimension and operate a GIS
Friday, July 13, 2007, 04:00 PM, CGIS-NUR DemoCentre, Telecom House, Kigali
Abstract
Making a beautiful map involves choosing colors and layout, data and publishing media - but a map is only the final output of a GIS system. Designing the GIS System itself involves many more thoughts and topics to cover: From user needs to network pre-requisits, from application development to hardware specifications. This presentation introduces the ESRI System Architecture Design Strategies and outlines major steps and considerations involved.
Everybody is invited. For additional information, please contact info at cgisnur.org
