Associate Geographic Information System (GIS) Officer, L-2, Abeche, Chad 
United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) vacancy notice number (OCHA/G/74/2007)

Duties and responsibilities:
Assist in developing and producing maps and related documents to support the work of the humanitarian community in eastern Chad; 
Identify clients’ needs and advise on the GIS products and services OCHA can offer to humanitarian partners in eastern Chad; 
Liaise other organizations’ GIS and information management staff in eastern Chad in order to promote strengthened coordination and information-sharing; 
Provide technical support as requested; 
Participate in relevant inter-agency missions in eastern Chad; 
Assist in the training and development of national skills in GIS in eastern Chad; 
Perform other duties as requested. 
 
Candidates should have an advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent), in GIS, computer science, or other relevant field; Minimum of 2 (two) years of relevant professional experience. Fluency in oral and written English and French is essential.
 
Specific skills needed:
Practical background in GIS and cartography, including knowledge of current GIS software (MapInfo, ARC/Info, ARC/View); 
Knowledge of related software and systems (database, word processing, desktop publishing); 
Knowledge of Remote Sensing and raster-vector integration techniques; 
Familiarity with Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI);
