this position might still be open, if a suitable candidate hasn't already been found.

The work itself is an interesting application area in which GIS is being used.

Post-doctoral Fellowship: Mapping Migration
The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS - www.ifas.org.za/research) and the Forced Migration
Studies Programme at The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (FMSP -
http://migration.org.za) invite applications for a one-year, postdoctoral research fellowship on
mapping migration. Using newly collected quantitative data and original qualitative interviews from
Johannesburg, Lubumbashi, Maputo and Nairobi, the fellow will chart current migration routes through
Southern Africa, various connections and exchanges among migrant groups, and potential migration
trajectories. This study will consider possible motivations for and constraints on movement at both
macro (continental) level and micro (inter-city) level. This position requires proven GIS skills.
Screening of applications begans 5 November 2007 and will continue until the position is filled.
