UNEP's Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA) is responsible for analyzing the state of the global environment, providing early warning information and assessing global and regional environmental trends to catalyse and promote international cooperation and action on the environment. Working for UNEP/DEWA, the incumbent will: 
1. Support DEWA staff in use of specialized geographic Information Technology and Communication (ITC) : a. Train and support staff in the use of specialised geographic information system applications (ArcSDE, ArcIMS, GeoPortal); b. Undertake desktop GIS software installation and manage networked user-license keys; c. Script small ad hoc applications related to customization of geospatial software. 
2. Manage an intranet for DEWA including remote centres
3. Support hardware and network operations of key DEWA infrastructure
4. Support software and accessory operations of the DEWA infrastructure
5. Undertake research and development for emerging DEWA applications in the areas of: a) Wide-area text search and retrieval; b) Wide area text and data harvesting; c) Test implementation of the clearinghouse server; d) Terabyte-scale data storage, retrieval and portrayal mechanisms.
