Dear Colleagues,
 
I have been requested to organize a Special Technical Session for the IGARSS '08 Symposium which will be held on 6-11 July, 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts. This Special Session will feature Remote Sensing and GIS research being conducted on the African Continent, and is being organized to showcase excellent African Remote Sensing and GIS research, and to build interest in the IGARSS '09 Symposium to be held in Cape Town, South Africa in July, 2009.  The proposed topics for this Special Session is  "Remote Sensing  and GIS research on the African Continent." It will feature research efforts which address any of the 9 societal issues being addressed by the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) program, which are: Agriculture, Disaster Mitigation, Weather, Environmental Health, Energy Resources Management, Water Resources Management, Global Climate Change, Ecosystem Management, and Biodiversity.  
 
The Special Session will consist of 10 papers. Interested  Scientists are highly encouraged to submit an abstract for this session. Abstracts are due by 26 OCTOBER, 2007. All abstracts are to be written in  English and contain a minimum of 500 words, or  a maximum of two one-sided pages. Please include paper title, presenting author name, affiliation and e-mail address at the top of each abstract. Abstracts should clearly and concisely state the problem, methodology used and central conclusions.  A maximum of two abstracts per person can be submitted for this session. to Dr. Mohamed Mohamed, the session Chair, at mohamed.mohamed at spadac.com or mamohamed at verizon.net , with a copy to Charles A. Luther, Past President, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, the session co-Chair at chuckluther at aol.com . Please confirm your  intent to submit an abstract as soon as possible.

General IGRASS'08 abstracts are to be submitted as soon as possible prior to the 7 Jan. 2007 deadline.  Additional information regarding IGARSS '08 can be found at www.igarss08.com.
