Education Program in Climate Change and Biodiversity Conservation
The International START Secretariat, the Pan-African START Secretariat (PASS), and the Institute of Resource Assessment (IRA), with financial support from the MacArthur Foundation, invites applications from early to mid-career conservation professionals and graduate students to participate in an Education Program on Climate Change and Biodiversity Conservation at the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Candidates from across Africa are eligible to apply, with emphasis on those from the Albertine Rift countries.
The education program will primarily consist of two, master's level courses that will provide instruction in the assessment of climate change risks to ecosystems and biodiversity and in designing strategies to manage these risks. A select number of candidates will also have the opportunity to participate in externships, practicum training and small research projects. Successful participants will receive credits toward a Master of Science degree and will acquire enhanced knowledge and skills that will enable them to contribute substantively to adapting biodiversity conservation practices under a changing climate.
Applications are currently being sought for participation in either or both courses.
Eligibility conditions:
Only African nationals may apply.
First priority will be given to candidates from the Albertine Rift countries i.e. Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
Applicants must either be early to mid-career conservation professionals OR master's (or higher) level students in natural resource management, environmental science, conservation biology and related fields.
Applicants must at minimum have a bachelor's degree.
Application Deadline: 29th February 2008 (16hrs East Africa time)
