Rwanda Information Technology Authority (RITA) ICT Employment Fund
Rwanda has embarked on a number of projects to support and maintain its socio economic development toward an information and knowledge economy. One of the main objectives in the NICI plan is to develop and facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive human resource development program to support the development of the Rwandan information society. It is in this regard that an ICT Employment Fund has been created to support and enhance young graduates’ employability and work skills. The ICTEF is an innovative approach, creating a win-win situation for employers and young graduates alike: it will provide organisations with ICT interns free of charge in return for on the job mentoring and will help young graduates acquire initial work experience thus to enhance their employability.
RITA, the Government institution in charge of the coordination and initiation of most ICT projects, supported by HIDA through the Public Sector Capacity Building project (PSCBP), seeks to recruit and pay for 15 entry-level jobs in ICT to provide recent graduates with valuable professional experience. These young ICT graduates will work for selected public and private sector institutions.
Objective of the program
1. The purpose of the program is to increase the supply of qualified ICT specialists with hands on work experience on the Rwandan labour market. To this end, the primary objective of the program is to provide young graduates with one year of initial work experience, supported by mentoring, to enhance their employability.
2. The secondary objective is to provide ICT interns to public and private sector organizations.
