IGAD HIV - Mapping of Transport Corridors Duration of Assignment:?30 Days Evidence shows that truck stops and port areas are important HIV ?risk zones? due to complex social contexts and high levels of mobility among a large and diverse population group, which can lead to an increased likelihood of engaging in unprotected sex in multiple concurrent sexual partnerships. This phenomenon is a significant driver of new infections in East Africa, leading to thousands of new infections per year. Population groups include female sex workers, and their regular and casual clients, including truck drivers and their assistants, port workers, civil servants (e.g. customs, immigration, and teachers), police and others. The proposed hot-spot mapping of two key transport corridors in the Horn of Africa, namely Khartoum to Addis Ababa through Galabat and Matama and Addis Ababa to Djibouti port will serve as a situational analysis of the context of HIV risk and vulnerability among high-risk populations and will identify the existing programmatic response and gaps. The nature of the consultancy is to undertake a GIS mapping assignment of these two transport corridors. The overall assignment decomposes to a set of activities as following: - To geo-code all points of interest along transport corridors (location of sex venues, lodgings, bars, restaurants, truck stops, health facilities and sentinel sites if possible, etc). - To incorporate data from the planned rapid assessment to be obtained from National consultants, under the guidance and supervision of the lead researcher. - To compile GIS data from different sources. - To generate meaningful maps to better inform interventions.
