Dear Friends and Relatives
Last week on the 23rd of June was the anniversary for Rueben Mavima. Rueben Mavima was the Chairman of Zimbabwe Spatial Data Infrastructure (ZSDI). He played a pivotal role in making the initiative move towards success. He dedicated most of his time and energy towards ZSDI till he departed and I witnessed a lot of people from different spheres coming to bid farewell on burial day.
Last week again there was a Zimbabwe Institute of Surveyors Conference at Mendel Training Centre on the 24th – 25th of June 2010. Coincidentally, the theme of the Conference was “Building Capacity – Facing Challenges: Towards a National Data Infrastructure (NSDI)”. It was as if the organizers of the event new that it was an anniversary for Rueben. Discussions were done about how this initiative could be resuscitated four (4) years after the passing on of Rueben, meaning that it had become difficult for someone to take the responsibility from that time in 2006. Different speakers talked a lot about the need to have it resuscitated all of them thanked Rueben for his previous effort since 2003 to 2006. Many speakers talked a lot about him, namely, Mr Njike, Mr Toriro, Mr Ndambakuwa, Mr Kashangura to name a few and may I be allowed to thank them on behalf of the family and on my own behalf. It showed that he did something good for himself, his profession and the nation at large. To me it was a professional anniversary as well although most of those guys didn’t know that it was his actual anniversary.
I thank everyone who remembered his work. May God continue to Rest Him in Peace and bless the family he left.
Thank you
