Training Course Announcement on Community-based Natural Resource Conflict Management, Indonesia, September 2006 - Feburary 2007
The Livelihood Support Program of the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with the Regional Community Forestry Training Center (RECOFTC) have announced a six months mentored 'Training Program on Community-based Natural Resource Conflict Management' in Indonesia starting in September 2006.
The course is designed as a practical learning experience for natural resource management professionals working at field level in participatory/collaborative natural resource management and/or rural livelihood projects and who are familiar with conflict situations in the course of their work.
The objectives of the training are to increase the participants' understanding and ability to apply the overall concept of consensual negotiations, to broaden their knowledge of the role of third party mediation and the mediation process itself, and to enable participants to facilitate the mediation process between conflict parties through practice.
Local, national and international agencies, NGOs and Government organisations who are actively engaged in natural resource conflict management are invited to nominate staff to participate in this training.
Nominations are sought from candidates with practical experience in participatory/collaborative natural resource management and facilitation and who are proficient in spoken and written English.

  Direct costs of participants (course fees, accommodation and travel of participants) of phase I and III of the training course will be sponsored by the Livelihood Support Programme of FAO.
Organisations nominating staff for the training course must however cover their staff incidentals during training workshops, fully support their staff, and cover all costs related to conflict interventions and case study write up during phase II and IV of the training programme.
Nomination of staff to participate at the Training Course
Organizations wishing to nominate staff to participate in the training are asked to provide the following supporting documentation:
- Information on organizations’ involvement in natural resources conflict management;
- Nominee’s detailed CV and filled-in questionnaire.
Deadline for nomination of staff is Friday, July 14, 2006.
