Abroad (CPGIS)
The Geoinformatics conference series was initiated by CPGIS in 1992. This
annual international conference has provided a unique forum for exchanging
ideas and knowledge on geo-information sciences between GIS professionals
worldwide. The 16th International Conference on Geoinformatics and the Joint
conference on GIS and Built Environment between Sun Yat-sen University and the
University of Cincinnati will be held during June 28-29, 2008 in Guangzhou,
China. Guangzhou is the third largest urban center in China, and it is only 90
minutes away by train from Hongkong.
The keynote speakers of the conference include Professors Deren Li, Michael
Batty, Keith Clarke, and Yeqiao Wang. The central theme of the combined
conference is “GIS, Built Environment, and Geo-simulation”. Topics include, but
are not limited to, the following:
• Urban and Built Environments
• Urban Dynamics
• Geo-simulation
• Cartographic Theories and Applications, Map Generalization
• Spatial Data Models
• Representation and Visualization of Geospatial Data
• Theories and Algorithms in GIS
• Errors and Their Measurements in Spatial Data
• Acquisition and Processing of Remotely Sensed Data
• Information Extraction from Remotely Sensed Data
• Satellite Positioning Technologies and Location Based Services
• Internet and Web GIS
• Spatial Decision Support Systems
• Government and public GIS
• Land Use / Land Cover Change
• Digital Earth and Virtual Geographic Environments
• Climate Changes and Global Environment
• GIS for Environment and Health
• Environmental Criminology, Crime Mapping and Analysis
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 15,
2007, a 1000 word abstract clearly explaining the problem, methodology, outcome
of the paper. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by January 15,
2008 and sent paper organizational guidelines. Full papers are expected to be
submitted by March 15, 2008. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a
rigorous review basis. All accepted papers will be included in a disk. High
quality papers will be published in EI indexed proceedings by SPIE and possibly
in special issues of Computers, Environment and Urban Systems and GeoJournal.
