GIS Expert, Islamabad, Pakistan 
Deadline: 25 December 2007.
The Government  of Pakistan has established the National Disaster Management Authority (ERRA) for the development of comprehensive disaster risk management system in the country.  ERRA also is meant to address reconstruction and rehabilitation of the earthquake affected areas.  
The GIS expert, in support of ERRA's work, will:
- Gather relevant data and information from key organizations in Pakistan; e.g. Pakistan Met Dept, Geological Survey of Pakistan, Federal Flood Commission, WAPDA, SUPARCO, and UN etc.. In this regard the GIS Expert will have to work closely with other experts on seismology, hydrology, drought, landslide, and engineering/ architecture; 
- Actively search for maps, satellite imagery of the areas concerned and provide necessary topographic basis for mapping exercise; 
- As a member of the technical group, provide geospatial support in hazard and vulnerability assessments and develop different GIS maps upon the assessment done by the hazard experts; 
- Work closely with scientific organisations in order to agree on the scope of hazard and risk mapping (develop common understanding and methodology); 
- Provide spatial and analytical information that can be used to assess the vulnerability of target areas based on previous natural disaster events, population, infrastructure, communications, etc; 
- Present results of research in appropriate forums, during the project duration as required and requested; 
- Seek feedback from stakeholders about research results and make appropriate modifications as necessary; 
fulfill any other assignments related to assessments and mapping and programme related issues.
