Microsoft NZ launches geospatial mapping with Land Information New Zealand (LINZ)
30 November 2007: Microsoft has teamed up with Land Information New Zealand (http://www.linz.govt.nz) and Eagle Technologies to produce a home-grown mapping application that can be used by businesses, clubs and local authorities.
The Geospatial Feature Locator prototype combines Microsoft's Virtual Earth technology and Eagle Technologies' expertise in GIS and has allowed location-based information held by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) to be quickly and easily accessed.
Using satellite imagery, users can zoom in on a location. Displayed on the image will be property boundaries with different coloured lines denoting ownership types, such as private or Crown ownership. Right clicking on the image will also bring up address and parcel information.
The LINZ project was one of several government developments funded by Microsoft New Zealand's Innovation Centre back in February 2007.
