Census Mapping Manager, Dili, Timor-Leste
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is assisting the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste through the National Statistics Directorate (NSD) to conduct the second National Population and Housing Census in 2010. One of the successes of the first census in 2004 was the degree to which geographic information technology was used to plan and conduct the census enumeration and to manage, analyze and present the data collected. Planning for the 2010 population census has commenced and various activities are already being implemented. In the period leading up to the census enumeration in July 2010, one of the activities is conducting census field mapping to identify and delineate enumeration areas, entering the enumeration area data into a GIS database, processing and coding the data, compiling and printing large numbers of enumeration area maps, and training members of the census team in a range of skills and subjects.
The National Statistics Directorate with support from UNFPA seeks to hire a Census Mapping Manager to be part of the 2010 Census Project Management Team and to lead the mapping program. The Census Mapping Manager will have primary responsibility for planning and overseeing implementation of the activities of the Census Mapping Unit. He or she will report to the Chief Technical Advisor to the Census Project and to the Director of the National Statistics Directorate.
Applicants with the required qualifications and experience should submit a written letter of application and a copy of their curriculum vitae (CV) by Friday, 20 July 2008, to: guida.monteiro at undp.org; araujo at unfpa.org.
