1. Title: GIS Network Coordinator (Job #27068)
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a dedicated individual to fill the position of a GIS Network Coordinator in its Washington, DC office.
Major Function
The GIS network coordinator works in the Conservation Science Program to build a strong network of GIS users within the global WWF network, including software licensing, data sharing and standards, training, and coordination. The primary function of this position is to build GIS capacity and serve as a technical liaison for GIS, extending the benefits of the technology to the WWF network.
Duties & Responsibilities
Builds GIS capacity in the WWF network, develops and updates GIS training material and coordinates and manages GIS training for the network. Performs training and coordinates ESRI software support for the network. Coordinates with other training programs in WWF.
Manages ESRI software acquisition for the WWF network.
Facilitates internal collaboration between WWF conservation GIS users and external collaboration with peers in other organizations. Uses WWF Connect and other tools to liaise between GIS staff throughout the WWF network.
Develops and maintains a current database of GIS users in the WWF network. Researches and informs data and metadata standardization for the WWF network.
Research and disseminates new technology in GIS and conservation to the network
Performs GIS analysis and mapping in support of WWF priority ecoregions and programs.
Liaise with GIS and Remote sensing software vendors
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
A Masterâs degree in Geography, Environmental Science or related field required. A minimum of two years experience in the application of GIS to conservation. Strong expertise in ESRI GIS software and experience with GIS data infrastructure and server.
Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of GIS (in particular ESRI products) and its application to conservation; knowledge of ESRI products, licensing and user support.
Technical proficiency with computer systems; knowledge of relational databases; information management skills and experience with GIS-associated tasks and analysis.
Willingness to train staff, both in Washington and in diverse global field situations. Previous experience with teaching ESRI courses is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface between WWF staff, decision makers, and the ability to provide clear and patient instruction.
Good organization, verbal and writing skills. Need to be comfortable with a lot of email communication as this will be the primary way of executing the job.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to travel for substantial periods to remote locations.
Knowledge of languages in addition to English, especially Spanish and French preferred.

2. Title: Remote Sensing Specialist (Job #27067)
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a dedicated individual to fill the position of a Remote Sensing Specialist in its Washington, DC office.
Major Function
The Remote Sensing Specialist works in the Conservation Science Program to lead in developing and applying remote sensing technology and methods to help solve conservation issues. The primary function of this position is to integrate remote sensing into conservation science and measure the progress of conservation in WWF priority ecoregions using remote sensing technology and the latest generation of satellite imagery.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides technical consultation to CSP and other WWF staff regarding application of remote sensing imagery, techniques and methodologies to conservation. Designs remote sensing solutions in collaboration with staff working in the WWF priority ecoregions.
Develops remote sensing techniques for measuring conservation progress in priority ecoregions.
Researches and develops innovative and creative remote sensing solutions for WWF conservation work
Develops compelling proposals that can attract donor funding for employing remote sensing to conservation initiatives.
Supports WWFâs conservation work through application of digital image processing, aerial photo and image interpretation, GIS analysis and evaluates results using rigorous statistical analysis.
Customizes software as necessary for easy and automated use and improved productivity and provides training to new users.
Plans, conducts, and coordinates field verification and ground truthing of remote sensing data and products.
Serves as CSP's expert and key resource on Remote Sensing.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
A Masters degree in Conservation Biology, Geography, Remote Sensing or related discipline. A minimum of three years demonstrable experience in the application of remote sensing to conservation.
Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of remote sensing, image interpretation and digital image processing with a good understanding of remote sensing and image analysis concepts and basic principles.
Knowledge of and experience with remote sensing techniques including change detection, image classification, image calibration, rectification, sub-pixel analysis and familiarity with statistical analysis and applications of remote sensing to conservation.
Knowledge of GIS and its integration with remote sensing.
Knowledge and experience with satellite imagery products including acquisition and archiving procedures. Must be current on remote sensing satellite mission operations and data characteristics.
Experience with Erdas IMAGINE software. In addition, familiarity with other software applications such as eCognition, ENVI, IDRISI, GRASS, PCI, ERMapper and SAS preferred.
High level of synthesis and ability to integrate remotely sensed data with a wide range of themes to generate underlying patterns and trends.
Willingness to train staff, both in Washington and in diverse field situations in the use of remote sensing.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface between WWF staff, decision makers, and the ability to provide clear and patient instruction. Must be networked at a technical level with the remote sensing community for easy collaboration.
Must be current on conservation issues and modern approaches and initiatives including recent technological advances in remote sensing.
Good verbal, writing and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to travel to remote locations for field work when necessary.
