SeaDataNet - A Pan-European Infrastructure for Ocean and Marine Data Management

The Conference aims at providing an overview of the existing information on marine environmental data, and showing the progresses on development of efficient infrastructures for managing large and diverse data sets.
The Conference will present different systems for on-line access to data, meta-data and products, communication standards and adapted technology to ensure platforms interoperability. Sessions will focus on infrastructures, technologies and services for different users: environmental authorities, research, schools, universities, etc. The Conference will be organised in four sessions:
- Marine environmental data bases: infrastructures and data access systems
- Data Services in ocean science: standards and interoperability
- Services and Visualisation tools
- Services for Users and Education

SeaDataNet (2006-2011) is a standardized distributed system for managing the large and diverse data sets collected by the oceanographic fleets and the new automatic observation systems. By use of standards for communication and new developments in intormation technology, the 40 in-situ and satellite marine data platforms of the partnership are providing metadata, data and products as a unique virtual data centre. Standards development and adoption for communication and Quality Assurance issues on data, meta-data and products are providing integrated data sets of assessed quality. The implementation of common QA procedure allows the preparation of common regional and global data products.
