SeaDataNet - Pan-European infrastructure for ocean and marine data management
SeaDataNet, supported by the European Commission within the 6th Framework Programme as an Integrated research Infrastructure Initiative (I3), is meant to give users integrated access via the SeaDataNet portal to data (i.e. temperature, salinity current, sea level, chemical, physical and biological properties), metadata, products and services. The data, managed by National Oceanographic Data Centres (NODC) and marine focal centres, are collected by many different sensors installed on board of research vessels, satellite and various platforms of marine observing systems.

The SeaDataNet Common Data Index (CDI), which is compliant with the ISO 19115 metadata standard, enables users to discover the availability and geographical extent of marine data, archived at the participating SeaDataNet data centres and available for public use. The CDI now contains references to more than 280.000 data sets.
