GBIF Web Developer, Copenhagen, Denmark
The GBIF Secretariat is seeking a software developer to augment this team. The individual should:
Have significant experience (at least 3 years) developing web applications using Java technologies, particularly Tomcat, Hibernate, Spring and Velocity
Have significant experience (at least 3 years) in the use of XML technologies, particularly XML schema, XPath and XSLT
Have experience in developing solutions using very large databases, particularly using MySQL
Be self-motivated and able to contribute constructively to a small team
Be comfortable working in a fluid, changing environment
Familiarity with the following areas will also be beneficial:
The standards and protocols developed by the Taxonomic Databases Working Group
The development of GIS solutions, particularly based on open standards
The development of semantic web applications using RDF and OWL
Authentication frameworks, particularly using LDAP
Any of the following additional programming languages: PHP, Python, Perl
The world of biodiversity information, including taxonomy, collection management, conservation science, etc.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a major international project using open source tools and standards and to play a part in increasing our understanding and management of the natural world.
The post is available for a period of 3-5 years starting in January 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter.
