After the success of the first Mediterranean workshop in Athens,
Greece, UN FAO have offered to host the second workshop at their
Headquarters in the centre of Rome.
Day one will cover global and national land cover classification
systems and how they can be used interoperably to collect global data
to measure climate change (landcover is one of the identified key
Climate Change Variables). Also, the importance of standardization to
ensure interoperability between the systems.
Day two will work through the development and implementations of
global, regional and national SDIs, with presentations of the UNSDI,
FAO SDI as well as the EC-INSPIRE, with a focus on interoperability
and ontology. There will be a discussion on the problem areas and how
to overcome them when coming to install and make an SDI work under a
variety of development circumstances and more importantly be able to
interoperate with other similar systems.
The full programme will be available shortly and will be made publicly
available. Due to the space available your acknowledgment of this
email with the intent to attend would be appreciated at your earliest
convenience.
There is no charge for this workshop and you are also invited to the
reception to be held outside on the 8th floor of the UN FAO building
magnificently overlooking ancient Rome.
