On 14th March 2008 CEN TC 287 will organise in Athens the first
"Mediterranean Workshop" on Spatial Data Infrastructures [1].
The Workshop will be hosted by the National Technical University of Athens
(School of Rural and Surveying Engineering).

>From the leaflet [2]:
The focus will be on Spatial Data Infrastructures. Presenters from Malta,
Spain, Italy and Greece will explain what they are undertaking in their
regions. There will be presentations on the impact of the technical
implementing rules for the INSPIRE Directive. This Directive came into force
last year and over the coming years we will see the effect of it rolling out
across Europe.
The establishment of a network of CEN/TC 287 Geographic Information
Mediterranean countries and holding open workshops will allow us to:

* work together in co-operation to ensure the correct usage and
understanding of GI standards
* actively encourage participation in CEN/TC 287
* investigate any regional requirements that need to be brought to the
attention of CEN/TC 287
* share knowledge on SDI and other GI related topics in the region
* show good practices
* discover what GI projects are being conducted in the region
* review any standards requirements at European level

The workshop is free.
Pre-registration is required at  www.gistandards.eu [3]
