The SMAP Regional Management and Support Unit, co-led by the Italian Environment Protection Agency (APAT) and the Finnish Environmental Institute (SYKE), organized a Regional Workshop on "Environmental knowledge and information exchange in the Mediterranean". The workshop assembled some 50 participants from the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries, including all the SMAP Clearing House Focal Points and Administrators (including those in North Africa), regional organisations and projects, institutes dealing with environmental information and the EC. This workshop continued the dialog initiated in 2006.

Regional Euro-Mediterranean Programme for the Environment (SMAP) Clearing House - an Internet Portal to navigate the Mediterranean "Sea" of Information on the Environment. The Clearing House aims at providing the SMAP Community with a tool for capturing, for each SMAP priority area, the current situation in terms of:
