Luxembourg Earth Observation Day - Remote sensing research and application in Environmental Sciences
October 23, 2009
Bourglinster, Luxembourg (near Luxembourg City)
To enhance the collaboration between the Grande Région’s remote sensing community the idea was born to organize on an annual basis an interregional Earth Observation day in Luxembourg. Moreover, the conference intends to increase the awareness among users and service providers within the ‘Grande Région’ of the potential that space technologies offer in the domain of environmental monitoring. Private companies in the ‘Grande Région’ are also given the opportunity to present their activities in related fields. Every year new topics related to remote sensing are selected by the international scientific committee.
This year’s conference will address the current and future status of remote sensing applications in forestry, hydrology, agriculture and air quality monitoring.
The program will include keynote lectures and podium discussions covering recent developments in environmental remote sensing. Moreover, a poster session will be organised to give the Grande Région’s remote sensing community the opportunity to present to their peers the recent scientific advances in remote sensing research.

Topics The conference will be organized in 2 main blocks with 2 sessions each:
Morning Sessions:
• Agriculture: Development of EO data processing methodologies and tools for classification and retrieval of biochemical properties of crops and soils.
• Forestry: Using RS data to derive forest parameters in forest management systems.
Afternoon Sessions:
• Hydrology: Integration of remote sensing techniques with hydrologic and hydraulic models for enhanced flood modeling and water quality assessment.
• Atmospheric sciences: Weather radar for precipitation monitoring, detection and characterization of aerosols; integration of RS data in atmosphere models.
