Doctoral Fellowships in Brazil Leading to a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences
The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Brasilia, Brazil, and The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World [formerly Third World Academy of Sciences] (TWAS), Trieste, Italy, have agreed to offer up to forty fellowships per year to young scientists from developing countries (other than Brazil) who wish to pursue research leading towards a Ph.D in natural sciences.
Applicants must:
be a maximum age of 30 years on 31 December of the application year;
hold a Master's degree in one of the fields of natural sciences;
have some proficiency in one of the following languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish or French;
be nationals of a developing country (other than Brazil).
The fellowships, tenable at research institutions in Brazil for a period of up to four years, will cover food, accommodation and the cost of international travel (return economy class fare by shortest route). The academic year in Brazil usually begins on 1 March and the second semester in early August of each year. Candidates must therefore observe the academic calendar of the host institution and be ready to start their fellowship on the first day of classes/courses.
Deadline: 31 August 2006.
