-- Bahamas' Land Use Policy and Administration Project conducts Town Hall Meetings
The first of ten Town Hall Meetings that are to take place in The Bahamas over the next year as part of the Land Use Policy and Administration Project (LUPAP) was held on November 9, 2006. LUPAP is co-financed by the Government of the Bahamas and the Inter-American Development Bank. The key activity of the 16 month project, is the design, development and installation of a computerized Parcel Information Management System (PIMS) based upon ESRI ArcServer technology. Additional components include a comprehensive analysis of land issues in order to inform the development of a National Land Policy and the modernization of the geodetic infrastructure. A series of town hall meetings are being held to discuss land use and land administration in a Town Hall Meeting format in order to understand citizen concerns and better propose future policy options.

The World Bank funded Land Administration Project (PRODEP) in Nicaragua is supporting the design, development and implementation of an Integrated Cadastre and Registry Information System (SIICAR). The long-term development objective of the Project is to improve the security of land tenure and thereby boost investment in agriculture, contribute to social fairness, promote the sustainable use of natural resources, increase revenue collection and facilitate planning at the municipal level. The Project will use SIICAR as the sole source of information for all land and real estate ownership rights and interests in Nicaragua. SIICAR will be open, transparent, and easily accessible for all registered parties/entities allowed to conduct land transactions.

-- Guatemala: Land Administration II Project approved
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approaved the $62.3 million loan for the Land Administration II Project was. The main objective of the project is to foster the process of achieving land tenure security in seven new departments (Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, Chiquimula, Escuintla, Izabal, Sacatepequez, and Zacapa) and the municipality of Palachum in the Department of Quiche, through the provision of efficient and accessible cadastral and land administration services. This geographical coverage represents roughly 22 percent of the country’s territory.
