CALL FOR Abstract – Distributed Geospatial Processing: Cyber infrastructure, Interoperability, and Spatial Web Portal 2007 AAG Annual Meeting, April 17-21, 2007, San Francisco, California

Distributed Geospatial Processing: Cyber Infrastructure, Interoperability, and Spatial Web Portal

Sponsor: NASA GeoScience Interoperability Office, Federal Geographic Data Committee, and Open Geospatial Consortium Inc.®
Organizer: Chaowei Phil Yang (NASA GIO/George Mason University) Rob Raskin (NASA JPL)

Developments in distributed computing, geospatial interoperability, and Web services technologies are changing the way we use GIS. For example: 1) Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth have changed how we explore geographic extent. 2) OGC developed multiple interoperable interface protocols to facilitate communication among GIS components that are widely used in assembling servicess, such as clearinghouses, web mapping servers, and geospatial web portals. 3) The evolution of distributed computing, especially cyber infrastructure, is enabling us to conduct computing intensive research and application. The Distributed Geospatial Processing session(s) is organized to capture the experiences gained on research, development, and education of the advancements in this field. Topics included but not limited to:

· Distributed Geospatial Processing architecture, modeling and data structure
· Geospatial Semantic Web
· Cyberinfrastructure and Grid Computing
· Interoperability practice and development
· Data Clearinghouse
· Geospatial One-Stop, and other Spatial Web Portals
· Data Quality and Quality of Services issues
· Applications of Distributed Geospatial Processing
· Education of Distributed Geospatial Processing

Please submit your PIN and abstract of no more than 250 words to Chaowei Phil Yang (cyang3 at gmu.edu) before Thursday, October 23, 2006, after submitting your abstracts through the AAG website and receiving the PIN.
