Following on from the success of last year's Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) seminar, the Lands & Survey Department, in partnership with Trimble Navigation Ltd., presented a sequel event on 1 September. Last year's event served as a catalyst for a dramatic 400 per cent increase in licensed GPS users throughout the Islands.
At the 2006 GPS Users Conference experts in the fields of survey and mapping solutions presented a day-long agenda that included post-processing surveys, updating equipment firmware/software, site calibrations, setting-up radios and repeaters, and utilizing cell phone and radio data.
The Lands and Survey Department intends to soon include its Frank Sound base station within the global network of Continual Operating Reference Stations (CORS), thereby joining the George Town and Cayman Brac CORS. Cayman's trio CORS will thus represent a true island-wide network of GPS excellence.
