Post-doctoral position mapping ecosystem services for Mexico, Morelia, Michoacan, 4 hrs west of Mexico City  
A diverse group of 14 researchers in the social and environmental sciences from UNAM (The National University of Mexico) coordinated at the Centro de Investigaciones en Ecosistemas (Center for Ecosystem Research) in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, is aimed at mapping a variety of ecosystem services at the Country level and through this process identify information gaps and research priorities on this topic for Mexico. A suite of provisioning, regulating, cultural and supporting services will be considered. The aims are:
1- Producing maps of ecosystem services provision
2- Producing maps of ecosystem services consumption or benefits
3- Identifying balances between supply and demand
4- Identifying temporal trends in supply and demand
5- Identifying trade-offs among services at present at for 3 contrasting future scenarios
based on readily available information .
A post-doctoral fellow is sought to lead this project in collaboration with Dr. Patricia Balvanera, an advising scientific committee, and collaborations with up to 50 Mexican scientists, with the following characteristics: training in spatial modeling of: i) ecosystem services, or ii) land-use change, or iii) biodiversity distribution, that included socio-economic drivers or consequences of modeled patterns; leadership, enthusiasm, and coordinating abilities; ability to communicate with scientists of multiple disciplines and with decision makers; 2 year commitment; Spanish speaking.
