Interactive seabird breeding maps
Environmental Protection In the Caribbean (EPIC) announces the release of
seabird and invasive species data in an interactive, map-based format at
OBIS-SEAMAP (Ocean Biogeographic Information System - Spatial Ecological
Analysis of Megavertebrate Populations) . This global program seeks to
organize marine mammal, seabird and sea turtle spatial data to advance
conservation and collaboration.
Caribbean Lesser Antilles Seabird Colony Atlas 2001-04
http://seamap.env.duke.edu/datasets/detail/418
Here you will find results of breeding colony surveys from 2001-2004. The
database is part of EPIC's goal to create a seabird breeding atlas for the
Lesser Antilles region using standardized field surveys. Funding is needed
to complete the collaborative surveys and share the information.
Undocumented colonies have certainly disappeared without notice. This
project is necessary to preserve biodiversity by helping to prioritize
conservation efforts in this rapidly developing region.
Thanks goes to partners including Anguilla National Trust, Dominica
Department of Forestry, Island Conservation Effort of Saba, Nature
Foundation of St. Maarten, Reserve Naturelle St. Martin, STENAPA, and St.
Kitts and Nevis Departments of Environment.
Navigational tips:

2. Zoom using left side scroll bar
3. Click on a colony label (colored squares) to view data in pop-up windows
4. Scroll down to view breeding abundance graphs for each survey and colony
5. Click on a graph to view a breeding status table
6. Click on 'invasives' to view a list of the known and unknown invasive
mammals, reptiles and birds on each sub-colony that may threaten seabirds
7. You may also view using Google Earth, click 'map on google earth' from
