The Jamaica Clearing-House Mechanism - Information Officer
The Jamaica Clearing-House Mechanism is the island's biodiversity information network and was established in accordance with the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the part-time position of Information Officer in the Jamaica Clearing-House Mechanism.
Reporting to the Senior Research Officer- JA-CHM, Natural History Division, of the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), the duties of the Information Officer will include but not be limited to the following activities:
+ Assist with preparation of material for the Jamaica Clearing House Mechanism (JA CHM) website (www.jamaicachm.org.jm)
+ Assist in the design and maintenance of the Biosafety WebPages
+ Maintain and update an information request database
+ Support Geographic Information System (GIS) activities in NHD
+ Assist with the development of public education resource material on biodiversity and its management
+ Assist with data entry
+ Assist with any other tasks related to JA CHM
Qualifications, Experience and Key competencies: Ø First Degree in Natural Sciences. Ø Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, FrontPage and Access. Ø Ability to use ArcGIS Ø Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.Ø Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ø Ability to analyze and research issues and provide information with solutions. N.B. The main task to be completed in the four month period of the contract is the creation of biodiversity maps (distribution maps) using GIS technology.Salary: $763,136 per annum (three (3) days per week for a period of four (4) months November 2007 to February 2007
