Chile to invest in hydrological resources control center & Antarctic climate monitoring network
Chilean President Michelle Bachelet announced a 57bn-peso (US$128mn) investment in development projects to be carried out by the private and public sector, promoting regional development throughout Chile's 15 regions, the government reported in a release. Projects will include technological, infrastructure and administrative improvements to increase productivity in the country.
Among the initiatives to be implemented with these funds in region II is the creation of a hydrological resources control center to optimize the sustainable use of water, which is scarce but greatly needed by the area's inhabitants and local mining industry. Another project to be financed is the implementation of a climate monitoring network in Antarctica to control the melting of ice fields.
