Spatial Data Infrastructure: A Corporate Approach
July 25, 2008: "Spatial Data Infrastructure: A Corporate Approach" was the theme of the 9th GEO Summit Latin America (www.geobr.com.br ), held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 15 to 17th July, 2008. The event was organized by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado and it was supported by Petrobras, Caixa Econômica Federal and Inpe.
To discuss international experiences in SDI, Silvana Camboim of GeoPlus; William brand Penner von Kader of Infoterra; and Tomas Sanchez of Autodesk, were in the event. The implementation of a Brazilian National Spatial Data Infrastructure was debated by Antonio Fernando Garcez Faria of Brazilian Marine Hidrographic Center; Leonel Antônio da Rocha Teixeira Jr of Ministery of Environment; Luiz Paulo Souto Fortes of Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics; and Omar Antonio Lunardi of Brazilian Army Geography Service.
One of the most important debates was about the need of a organization for mapping in Brazil. With the theme 'What is the map that Brazil needs?', the debate was conducted by Gilberto Câmara of National Institude for Space Research; Edaldo Gomes of National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform; Luiz Paulo Souto Fortes; Fernando Campagnoli of Amazon Protection System; and Antonio Machado of AMS Kepler. The moderator was Emerson Zanon Granemann.
GeoWeb has more notoriety day after day and has shown guaranteed return in business. And this was the idea of one debate in GEO Summit 2008. The democratization of geoinformation can be well used by companies and useful for community said Chris Tucker of Erdas; Marcelo Quintella of Google; and Galileu Vieira, of Microsoft.
Integration of CAB, BIM and GIS technologies is one of the hot themes lately among geoinformation profesionals. Geoff Zeiss of Autodesk; Wolmar Sabino of Sisgraph/Intergraph; and Adolfo Ribeiro of Bentley, participated of the 'Integration of Solution in CAD/BIM/GIS' debate.
To discuss the relation between neogeography and GIS profesional, specialists were present in GEO Summit. As also to debate the interoperability and open standards, with specialists from Autodesk, Erdas and Imagem/ESRI. Specialists from DigitalGlobe, RapidEye and Spot Image presented and debated what´s new in high resolution spatial sensors.
Profesionals of land survey, cartography and georeferencing found in GEO Summit 2008 updated informations in debates with specialists. The environment was not left aside, with discussions about how geotechnologies can help to avoid deforestation, global warming and susteinable development. GEO Summit 2008 also discussed about infrastrucutre in telecommunication, energy, sanitation and great engineering constructions, as well as geomarketing and ERP&GIS integration.
