Working for FAO, the Forestry Officer will contribute to the support to national forest monitoring and assessment (NFA) in Latin American countries. Specifically, will:
identify needs and opportunities for national forest and land use monitoring, assist in formulating country projects and support establishment of multi-stakeholder national steering committees,
support the implementation of NFA projects, assist in FAO project administration including to assign national project coordinators and recruit national consultants;
assist in harmonising the national information framework with international reporting requirements.
provide technical guidance and training to national personnel required for country project implementation as well as to develop national capacities for the long-term monitoring of the forestry resources;
assist in fostering the NFA inter-sectoral approach and methodology including through national, regional and international meetings and expert consultations;
participate in conceptualizing and implementation of information and documentation systems in the collaborating countries;
assist the national steering committees in ensuring linkages between NFAs and different levels of national decision-making including national forest programmes, national accounting and national poverty reduction strategies;
promote awareness and fund raising for NFA, including to bring countries and FAO efforts to the attention of the donor community;
perform other related duties as required.
