Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Data and Information System (DIS)
The DIS is an Internet-based data and information system which focuses on: 1) Dissemination of data created within the IAI scientific projects by using a metadata creation and management process; 2) Data discovery; and 3) Contribution to the standardization and exchange of scientific data between investigators and institutions.
- The DIS Metadata Editor allows the creation, edition, standardization and maintenance of metadata. It is an user-friendly web-based application, where no other extra tool is required than a standard web browser.
- The DIS Search Process, through the Search Tool, facilitates the identification of articles, presentations, posters and other information produced by the IAI Investigators.
- The DIS Harvest Process is an internal process, but not least important. It collects metadata that are marked as "searchable" by the Investigator and create or update the index. The "harvest" process is done once a day, so every metadata modification is sent to the index as part of the daily process, which keep the metadata list up-to-date, and consequently the data list.
The combination of these 3 mechanisms creates an efficient and reliable system that allows investigators to document data and specially enable free and open access to data.
