The Land Information Council of Jamaica (LICJ) in collaboration with the University of the West Indies (UWI) will be streaming GIS Day 2008 activities live from the UWI campus on Wednesday November 19, 2008 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This feed can be accessed via the UWI home page at www.uwimona.edu.jmor directly at http://tv.mona.uwi.edu/ .
GIS Day is part of the National Geographic Society’s exciting new initiative, Geography Action. The Jamaican theme for the week and GIS Day this year is “GIS: Driving Response - Ability”. The theme was selected in order to raise awareness and educate children and adults about GIS technologies and how they can be used to improve our ability to timely and effectively respond to various emergencies.
The first live streaming of GIS Day was done last year (November 14, 2007).
The over whelming response from both local and international GIS organizations and practitioners to this added feature of GIS Day has led to the revisit of the idea to provide live broadcasting this year. This expands LICJ's reach in sensitizing the public on GIS. LICJ therefore invites you to virtually be a part of the International celebration of GIS Day.
