Mercy Corps GIS Internship, Bogota, Colombia
Duration: 10-12 weeks
Deadline: as soon as possible
Mercy Corps - http://www.mercycorps.org/ - seeks a GIS intern for work with internally-displaced and other vulnerable populations in the sustainable management of their natural resources. Mercy Corps has three projects under its Sustainable Resource Management program that are implemented in the Darién and TierraAdentro Regions, and in Bogotá. The projects are related to mitigating and adapting to climate change in urban, peri-urban and rural communities:
1.An urban forestry project in the urban and peri-urban sections of Bogotá that improves the environmental quality of marginalized communities, funded through carbon finance mechanisms.
2.A land conflict resolution project targeted towards mediating territorial and natural resource conflicts between Indigenous, Afro-Colombian and Mestizo groups.
3.A renewable/alternative energy project for Indigenous groups in the TierraAdentro region integrated with watershed conservation and improved agricultural practices.
A strong and fluent use of Spanish will be required, as well as the creation and/or translation of training manuals for GIS program use.

While Mercy Corps is unable to provide a stipend for the internship, however, travel to the project areas in Colombia and related project expenses will be covered by Mercy Corps.
