Canadian National Road Network (NRN) v.2.0
The National Road Network, edition 2.0 (NRN 2.0) contains address ranges, street names and place names. Production of the Nova Scotia NRN 2.0 was accomplished by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (SNSMR) through the Nova Scotia Geomatics Centre (NSGC) in collaboration with provincial partners: Emergency Measures Organization, Transportation and Public Works, 55 Municipal Units, and First Nations. The work was one within the framework of a maintenance agreement between NRCan, Statistics Canada and SNSMR with the support of GeoConnections program. The Canadian National Road Network, in addition to serving as a model for managing partnerships and having publicly available road data for all of Canada, also has specifications and a technology footprint that may be useful to others countries. Some of the features of note are:
· practical and useful design: appropriate geometry/segmentation model, identification scheme, and use of measures for attribute referencing to support all transportation applications
· support to topographic mapping and census data needs for geometry.
· addresses and names content – a key piece for Census.
· ease of extending the base data for different applications, from locals to DOTs to value-added data providers for navigation.
· downloadable in segmented model (i.e., roads split where attributes change) or LRS model (segmented at intersections only, attributes as event tables).
