Funding Opportunity: Joint Canada-USA Spatial Data Infrastructure Project 
Deadline: Deadline for submissions through www.Grants.gov is 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) December 18, 2007. 
GeoConnections and the U.S. Federal Geographic Data Committee are pleased to release their sixth joint request for proposals for a Canada-USA spatial data infrastructure project. They are now soliciting proposals to develop cross-border, regional online mapping systems that access geospatial data and information from distributed sources over the Internet. 
The regional mapping application developed by these joint demonstration projects will cover a geography including both Canada and the USA, and will enhance further understanding of the complexities, challenges, and effort required in utilizing geospatial information to address an issue common to the two countries. Projects will establish a collaborative process that provides different kinds of organizations and disciplines with the ability to integrate and share geospatial data publicly by using the technologies that form part of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure and National Spatial Data Infrastructure. 
The project to be funded will deal with a common priority issue that results in increased information sharing while making available new content and services online. Initiatives that involve cross-border regional collaboration that support decision making within the following themes will be preferred:
Public safety and security: Situational awareness and management of consequence 
Public safety and security: Critical Infrastructure Identification 
Aboriginal and Native American peoples: Land and resource management or community planning
