NOAA completes U.S. Tsunami Warning System
In March 2008, NOAA deployed the final tsunami detection buoys in the South Pacific, completing the buoy network and bolstering the U.S. tsunami warning system. This vast network of 39 stations provides real-time data to the Tsunami Warning System in order to provide coastal communities with faster and more accurate tsunami warnings.
Through the emerging Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), NOAA is working with its federal partners, more than 70 countries and the European Commission to develop a global monitoring network that is as integrated as the planet it observes, predicts and protects.
